Welcome to the website of the German Society of Midwifery Science (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hebammenwissenschaft e.V.)!
As an independent scientific society, the German Society of Midwifery Science (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hebammenwissenschaft e.V.) promotes research, education and practice related to midwifery science which aims at the furtherance of midwifery itself. Moreover, it advocates health care of women and their families during pregnancy and birth as well as the postpartum and breast-feeding period which is oriented towards their individual needs, is evidence-based, cost-effective, and efficacious. Besides engaging in a scientific discourse, the German Society of Midwifery Science places a high priority on communication with the public and policy-makers: scientific findings provided by the Society are intended to inform and guide officials with responsibility for health and family politics as well as representatives of various interests.
Members of the German Society of Midwifery Science come from diverse backgrounds:
professionals engaged in midwifery related research or in tertiary level education of midwives, nurses, or health care personnel, as well as students of related higher education programmes,
midwives and students of secondary level education who have an interest in advancing midwifery science,
research scientists and students of other subject areas
professionals of other fields of activity who support the aims of the Society.
